Ducted Fan Pinewood Derby Car
"The Fan and LEDs are powered by 4 capacitors that together store up around 10 volts. The circuit uses a double pole-double throw micro switch that with the switch closed charges the capacitors, when the switch opens (when the starting gate goes down) the stored voltage is routed to the Fan and LEDs... the rest is pure magic, as you can see in the video the car gets a boost from the fan and takes off! The sound and the thruster/afterburner effect just add to the fun. The car can't race officially of course, we use it as a challenge car and to warm up the crowd. I'm making two more cars that are based off of the prototype shown in the video, they will be of slightly different designs and one will Red LEDs and the other Blue. We'll race them against each other as a pre race show." ~ discodave20
The Ducted Fan Pinewood Derby Car is powered by 4 capacitors, with up to 10 volts stored. A Blue nano LED has been placed inside the fan housing to create a thruster effect when activated. The capacitors are charged using a double pole-double throw switch, and as the starting gate is dropped, the stored voltage is routed to the fan and LEDs. The car is given a boost, and the visual effect is produced, making it a challenge car used to entertain the audience before races.
