NEW
For the SMD LEDs: Pico, Nano, Chip we are now offering our smaller coin cell and smaller holder with a slide switch!

Instant FRED. Fun and quick one-time project, for many years of enjoyment. There is no circuit board, no need for any accessory power source.

The LED will work for 10+ years, we guarantee it for the first 2 years with free replacement. The coin cell will need to be replaced after approximately 70-100 hours.

N Scalers, this unit can fit your box car.

A modification: we clip the 2 "wings" off the holder to get it to better fit into the car. The battery is still firmly held by the metal clips inside the holder.

Perfect F.R.E.D.

Installed the flashing red end of train beacon in two boxcars. Drilled a small hole in the bottom of the boxcars to access the small switch which I glued to the inside floor of each car.
Ran wires out to a DIY makeshift FRED body attached to the car coupler and mounted the nano L.E.D. on it. The circuit works perfectly and adds realism to the end of the trains. Will probably buy more.

This item was used for a review in our productions. Awesome Tiny LED. Bright for the small size, but not too bright. perfect for model railroading.

one worked, one didn't

So excited! They arrived. Tried one by simply holding the wires in my fingertips and it worked. Tried the second one; it worked once ..then not. I noticed the wire fell out the microswitch!!! Horrors, I can't solder, let alone at N scale. Haven't even approached installing them in a car yet. Argh flimsy slide switch couldn't handle two slidings.

Hi Brian,
I am very sorry to hear you ran into that.
We test everything here before we send things out.
We can send you a replacement coin cell holder with slide switch right away, you do not need to do anything.
You will be getting a tracking number soon.
I know this is an inconvenience for you and I apologize. Thank you for your patience with this problem.

LED flashing light kit

Quality kit for use on my N scale train layout. I installed these in 3 of my boxcars...plenty of room for the coin cell holder, switch and circuitry. Also it was nice to have enough wire attached to all components that allowed for additional ease and positioning. The results are just great and looks very prototypical. Fun way to spend the afternoon working on the railroad! Thanks to Evan Designs!
